ABOUT AVENUES FOR JUSTICE: Avenues for Justice (originally known as the Andrew Glover Youth Program) was one of the first alternative to incarceration (ATI) programs for youth in the country. AFJ was co-founded by Lower East Side residents Robert Siegal and Angel Rodriguez. Led by Angel since 1979, with continuous Hispanic leadership, AFJ has maintained among the lowest recidivism rates in the country - on average only 5% of our Participants are convicted of a new crime within three years of enrollment in our program. Avenues for Justice currently serves 300+ ATI court-involved and at-risk youth and young adults across New York City per year, providing court advocacy and HIRE UP online and onsite programs for training, mental health, and education, through our centers in Harlem and the Lower East Side, and at our headquarters at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse. It only costs $5,750 to provide our services to a young person annually.
